Kathmandu to witness OX fighting for first time

The first national ox-fighting competition will be organised in February next year.
According to the organizers-- Nepal Olympic Museum and Maghe Sankranti Fair Management Committee--, the event has been slated for February 1 and 2 at Sano Gaurcharan in Gyaneshwor. "This is the time ox-fighting competition is being organised in the capital." However, the traditional ox -fighting competition is held every year on the occasion of the Makar Sankranti at Kataharbot Pata and Betrawati of Taruka- 5 in Nuwakot district.
Oxen for the national competition will be selected from the same events, Bishnu Taruke of the organizing committee said.
The winner team of the competition will bag Rs. 25,000 and the letter of appreciation while the first runner-up will collect the cash of Rs. 15,000, said Rss quoting event organizers.
Maghe or Makar Sankranti is a festival that is observed on the first day of the month of Magh as per the Bikram Sambat Nepali calendar.
